For the past fourteen years, Kristen Hodel, owner of Build It Marketing, has worked with A/E/C clients to define their market position and communicate their story to potential clients to win work. Supporting in-house staff with strategy and production allows firms to grow their businesses. Having watched her fraternal grandfather create successful companies, helping others build up their marketing and business development platforms is a natural career path.

Kristen began working in Denver in 1998 with the City of Denver/Visit Denver. During her eight years with International Tourism Marketing, she worked with the State of Colorado Economic Development Council, the Governor’s Office, and the Mayor’s Office; she developed the Go West Summit to become a top-profit product for the company. In 2008, she was recruited by a former boss to help with a start-up national hospice provider, Enclara Health (sold to Humana in 2020), to build the marketing and sales departments. Kristen transitioned to the A/E/C industry, working for a prominent architecture firm, helping to grow the K12 education and library markets; when another acquired the firm, she led the public relations transition and the data merge of the two company’s CRMs. Over her nearly 30-year career, she has gained extensive experience in marketing, business development, client service, and public relations.
